Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Rusted (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Location: north Georgia
Date: May 4, 2004
Aperture: f/5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/800th
Date Uploaded: May 4, 2004

Canon EF 17-40 L USM

Shot this as one in a series.

I cropped for 5x7 aspect ratio
Applied:
Levels
Brightness/Contrast
Hue/Saturation
Sharpened with USM

If this had been advanced editing I would have rotated the image slightly counter-clockwise and cloned out some power lines in the sky so to make the composition I submitted more pleasing and to allow me to expand my crop slightly farther back.

I think you had a great idea but should have carried it a little further, too much in picture, would have decreased my DOF to keep interest focused on the track. Composition is good and I like the angle.

There doesn't appear to be much rust in the photo and what rust there is , is out of focus. I would suggest using some zoom along the track to retain focus.

the rail itself seems too blurred..

I like the angle, the powerline is distracting

good shot--like the angle. Shows how big the train is without even seeing it.

Would be better with a little more background detail...longer depth of field...

great perspective...I really appreciate these kind of shots now that I'm using a 10d...which forces you for the most part to have get on the ground with the camera to see through the viewfinder instead of just looking through the back screen

Great angle. This could use even more DOF. The rocks and the cross ties are all that is in focus, I would like to see the rail in focus. Lighting is good. Background is rather ho hum. I like this however, and would consider hanging it on my wall if the background were a little more aesthetic. Maybe you can find some track in a more beautiful spot.

love the perspective, although the actual rust could be sharper, cool pic

Nice perspective. A bit contrasty.

Like the rails, the ties and the gravel, do not like the sky, the trees, or the power line.
