ITS A LARGE BULLANT WITH THE BEE .. a couple of ppl have commented about it being a spider but it isnt .. the bullant is about 15mm or 3/4" long .. and they dont bite you they sting you with their rear end .. i got stung a couple of weeks ago and it hurt for a week ..

anyhooooo .. there's a bush on the firetrail where a lot of monarch butterflies seem to gather, but when i get close enough to photograph them they fly away .. there are other insects on the bush and as i was looking at them i noticed this bullant with the bee .. he was working his way down the bush towards the ground .. sometimes dropping from one branch to another .. he didnt stop moving for a second so he was very difficult to photograph .. probably got two where his eye was in focus ..
added a photograph of some long grass near the house as an overlay etc etc ..

sorry if its a bit gruesome for some ppl .. :)

here's the original image for ppl who wanted to see the ant properly ..

It's funny, the processing almost makes it appear as if the bullant is just an extension of the flower - wolf in sheep's clothing, indeed!

i have to make sure this is NOT the last picture i see before I go to bed. I know you love taking pics of bugs, and do a wonderful job with it, but they just creep me out. I'm very thankful now that our ants are so much smaller. eeeeg.

I always LOVE your creepy crawlies! Your processing techniques make them look all the more ominous, which is fantastic :-) You are very brave to deal with these stingy things!

I do so hate creepy crawlings but there is something about your images that force me to look. The "eww" and "ick" factor are present with a hint of "get me out of here" which added to the rich greens makes me think this is another one of your stunners! (or stingers?)

Gruesome? It's gorgeous! You make insects beautiful!! Ya know, I think I might like this one flipped over (while my hubby sits watching me stand on my head to look and thinks I've flipped my lip).

Ooohhh yes I have a memory of when I lived in Melbourne and we went to the bush one day I foolishly took of my socks and shoes. When I went to put my socks back on there were bullants in them ouch!

He is kind of a scary looking dude. Great capture and the overlay works very well.

Great shot Roz, i'm still WOWed looking at it. I can't see the spider as well as I would like though and would love to see it from another angle if you have the time. I want to see hwat this killer looks like eheh. Do you think it caught this bee, in its web I presume, or was the bee already dead?

If you hadn't said it, I would have thought the grass was from you moving around trying to capture the insects. :)

The bee looks huge so I can only imagine how big the spider is! I almost missed the spider (thank goodness it's not too visible because while I dont mind bees and wasps I HATE spiders!).

Oh I particularly like that. The curve of the little bug. The blur of the vivid green grass is so pretty.
