Several commenters guessed it: this guy was a good 100 yards away, and this is a severe crop.

Oh, well, I still like the shot.

Here it is either too sharp or not sharp enought go figure. To me it's great. Say again why you are on a suck team :)

This is one of my 10s. I can't believe it didn't score higher. What is this fixation with sharpness? It looks great to me. (Maybe it's time for new glasses.) I love the processing. The color and contrast are great. And the crop is perfect.

maybe a bit over sharpened, guessing this is a pretty severe crop.

Stunning shot! I love the way that it fills the frame, and how the lion is not looking straight on. The only two things that I think could be worked on are: 1. Its a little noisy for my likings 2. Its a little dark and the contrast is a bit laking. Otherwise, great shot.

I can feel his prowess. Majestic creature, well captured.

Image appears a little flat and unsharp. Well composed (I love animal close ups) but I think this was cropped a lot to get what you have which results in the lack of detail. 5

Beautiful animal, nice detail & color - though a tad dark on my monitor - 'serenity' is an excellence choice of words, he looks supremely serene here... -- 7 --

A bit soft. Potentially from a severe crop? The shot is fairly classic. 6

Hmmm, I find the crop here a bit tight, the actual sharpness just isn't there either, however the colouring is lovely.
