Day 1 of 30 Whatevers

This is what caught my attention today. A pseudo-candle in a nook above the fireplace at my in-law's house. The house is reasonably old (built in the late 1800's or early 1900's, I think) and there are wonderfully quirky bumps and patched cracks in the walls and not everything lines up. Much more fun than my house with its rectangular rooms! The patterns made by the light on the ceiling and wall in this little nook were enjoyable to look at, so I shot them.

PP - converted from RAW, straightened ... more or less, cropped, duotone, added border, resized, sharpened with noise reduction.

Processing is well-suited to the subject - very nice. Old houses are definitely far more interesting for photos.

The light patterns remind me of ripples on water. Nice.

The sepia tones bring a nice 'worn' feel to this composition. The low lighting with the darker tones and shadows around the edges bring a moody and edgy feel to this photo. The 'ripples' of light on the back wall takes on some aspects of smoke - adding to the moody and edgy feel.

Yes...it reminds me of an old house. Having lived in a house that was over 200 years old, I can say that they have such character, that certain hand made feel about them. I miss that. They have warmth and soul.

I get a creepy haunting feeling when I look at this too long. I like it for its moody feeling and wonderful lighting. I would put that on a wall in my hallway with a similar light to illuminate it.

It's almost like a ghostly spirit is drawn to the light, with the sense of blurred movement in the background. :~)

That's pretty neat that you noticed how the point source light shining through the shaped glass made the light patterns on the wall. That was an interesting find, and nicely presented with the processing that you did.
