A rusted leg of a plant holder. For lack of enough space in the garage, some things have to be left outside in the backyard all season. This plant holder has been exposed to the elements (harsh winters and hot summers) for too many seasons thus the title.

Shot with natural light from a window. Background was a plain plywood, the right side was partially blocked by a curtain creating a gradient look.

Raw mode, adjusted white balance to cloudy for a more yellowish/warmer tone.

greetings from the critique club!!

Congratulations on wonderful shot, and your high finish. It's always interesting to me how subjective photography is. In reading the comments of the others, opinions are very split about DOF, background color, lighting, etc. I would be tempted to spend some more time with this shot, now that the challenge is over, and you're not hampered by editing rules.

Here's what I'd do: Tone down the overexposure on the front high parts of the hanger. Clone out the digital spots and reflections on the inside of the loop and other miniscule places through out. My comment about the background is that it's too soft against and soft DOF. I would try to get a little more contrast. Add some texture or noise, or just ofset the color away from your subjects color a little more. On the right side background, where the plywood seem is evident, I would smooth out. Then I would put this shot up for sale on DCPrints. It is very nice. saludos, russ

I think I like this one almost better than the abstract shot you entered (and that one is beautiful). This one is so gentle, yet strong. The background is beautiful, so smooth.

I like it! Beautiful. You have succeeded in making a rusty old subject interesting. I think the background is perfect. I like the way it goes from light to dar. Your focus and clarity are right on, and lighting is wonderful as well. Both focus and lighting help to bring out the details and textures here. What else can I say? Very nice. 10 ~Heather~

I like the way the background is very out of focus here, the softness of the background really helps the subject jump out, the subtleness of the border is also nice.

All around a very decent shot to my novice eye.

not normally my kind of shot, a little too obvious. However a lovely angle, looks abstractly like a flower. Like the DOF too, though would have preferred either both sides to be out of the DOF or both within but a little, saying that i dunno :)

Background is just perfect, I feel like the rust itself is mabey a tiny bit too bright there on the top, lovely composition. Good luck

I would have liked this better with more in focus. The whole object is equally beautiful and I wish I could examine it all. Great background.

This is an awesome shot. Definitely meets the challenge and then some. I really like the abstractness of this shot and you used a great color for the background. All blends together very nicely with just the right amount of contrast. Good luck with the challenge!!!

very nice. Lighting, compositions, subject .. its all excellent. I my opinion this would have been more interesting if the rust was more vivid (maybe through playing around with levels, curves, ect). = 9

Lovely tones, and the sharp focus on this is nice. It might have looked a little better with the whole piece in focus (since it is so small), but it's lovely as it is. The background compliments the rusty colouring nicely. 10

A very nice presentation. I like the way the backround is gradiated from dark to light / right to left. Your background fully supposts the main subject (colorwise). Focus is a bit soft in some areas - I'd love to be able to see the grayish objects on the rst a bit more clearly.

The excellent design of the rusty shape is brought out beautifully by the background which enhances the image beautifully. Good luck. .
