Roseate spoonbills having lunch by the road. I pulled off and clicked a few shots at them.
Nikkor 300mm f4.5 ED IF Ai and monopod, from the drivers seat. I put the monopod leg out the window on the passengers side to stabilize the camera. There is a barbed wire fence about knee level, so I shot at f4.5 to hide the fence. The f4.5 makes the whole thing a little soft in sharpness. I also shot a couple at f5.6, but the fence can be seen in those.
PP Crop to less than 1/4 of the original, levels, bright, highlights, sharpen.

They look quite relaxed. The ones on the ends are even making eye contact, I think. Pretty cool birds (I only see them in the zoo).

They look like they're up to no good! Great job at hiding the fence!

It's always a thrill for me to see these exotic birds in the wild. Thanks for the tip about the f-stop to hide the fence. I had never thought of using shallow DOF for that purpose. I can hear a great collective "Duh!", but sometimes I don't think of the obvious.

Cool looking birds. They look good against the uncluttered background.

Pretty good Waddy - you must have been a fair distance away not to spook them...detail is ok at f4.5 - I can't pick where that fence is.
