Wow!!! When I saw this image I knew there would be comments about pencil "lead" being graphite. I had no idea there would be this many, or this high of a percentage pointing out.

Yes thankyou everyone for your comments and I will NEVER forget the fact that lead pencils do not contain lead!!!!..silly me..but it is one way to get lots of feedback.

Wow. You really cleaned up on comments in this challenge. I guess you won't ever forget what pencils are made out of, eh?

I like the shot, but to nitpick - I think pencil lead is graphite which is a carbon.... but those pencils look really sharp!

I know a pencil should be sharp, but...

Nice comp and concept. The BG is a bit dingy-white, that should be a quick levels fix, and ease up a bit on the sharpening. Again, nice concept, but take your time with the processing. There is real potential here.

that would be graphite, an allotrope of carbon.

interesting photo. good idea for the challenge, unfotunatly its graphite thats in there now(sorry, im sure you've heard that a million times already) i like how soft and dreamy the background is. its too bad the pencils are a bit out of focus themselves

Sorry to be a dork, but technically that's graphite. Pencils do not actually contain lead.

Ummm, modern pencil "lead" is actually graphite. Graphite is a form of carbon, which is also an element, so this is not DNMC. However, it does make your title incorrect.

Good, though I've seen similar shots that managed to squeeze just a little more detail into the subject. Still worth a 6 from me.

That's not Lead, it's Carbon(C) ;-)

Nice DOF. However, pencils are no longer made with lead in them (its graphite)

graphite (Carbon) actually.

Actually graphite... but a neat image anyway.

its actually a clay and graphite mixture.

Very sharp and good colors

Isn't that actually carbon? :) I like the pic.

I think that had the contrast been a bit higher, this might have been a bit more depth given to this shot. But, I like the concept and oddly enough, not a lot of people thought of it!

I would be very surprised if the pencil were lead filled. . . graphite, yes.

there's no lead in pencils. image looks a bit soft overall

The title is a misnomer. Nowadays pencil "lead" is actually graphite, a form of carbon.

nice macro

Actually it is graphite...carbon

Very attractive shot, I like the softness in the foreground and background and the strong color contrasts.

And everyone is probably giving you a hard time because lead in pencils is really graphite, which I think is carbon. Pretty good macro - I like the shallow DOF.

Actually I think the lead in a pencil is carbon :)

The image is a little cluttered and I think a bit more depth of field would have helped.

A good image, but it would have been a genius move to entitle the image "carbon", as it is graphite, rather than lead. (There might be lead in the paint on the pencils.)
