Saw this building in downtown Seattle that was so dark and lifeless and then this one patch of light with someone walking into it. It seemed to make sense that someone would be rejecting the cold windowless urban steel to walk into a brighter engagement with the world.

Pretty standard stuff in CS4, crop with perspective, convert to b/w, curves, contrast, vignetting, cloned out some reflection, resize, USM, SFW.

Submitting after a long hiatus, so I hope this does well. Special shout out to roba for lending me his camera while I'm waiting on my 5DmII.

No idea how this will be received since it doesn't have much punch but I think it's cool.

People walking into the scene, in my opinion, will make for a stronger image, as I feel they become more of the scene. If we see them leaving the shot, then we are pulled out of the image and don't pay attention to the rest of the shot. My eye goes from top middle, down the line to the tree, then the white ledge, to the person, and out the image.... it doesn't return.

Very cool shot. Quiet, but very expressive. The grandeur of the frame, the lovely lines of the structure, particularly the three strong horizontals from right to left echoed so nicely with the horizontal between the tree and person. And the tree - acting to me as a guardian to the scene, a witness, if you will. The person will walk on, but the tree will stay and keep record.

Wonderful abstract on lines and form. Love how the individual is in the light which really makes the composition special. Only quibble would be to use distortion control to fix the slight barrel distortion. Normally not a big deal, but a little noticeable here with the emphasis on lines. Very cool photo and highly rated.

This flat facade looks like it's sucking every living form inside through those little holes. It looks like it has already sucked all of the leaves and the only escape is to go towards the light. Well, the tree was not lucky.

Very cool tones, really cool shot as well, i would prefer to see the woman on the right hand side walking to balance the shot better, but what can you do its candid, very cool shot and an 8 from me.

I like all that this represents, the dead tree, the harsh lines of the city, and the woman moving on to something better. Excellent capture.
