Edit: Thanks everyone for the comments. I was a bit bothered by the lines the watercolor filter created but decided to go with it because I really liked what it did to the original.

I took this shot after spending hours at the Indianapolis Zoo and gardens next door. I was taking pictures of a different flower and this one caught my eye and I took a quick snapshot of and it look OK on the camera. It was late when we got to the hotel room and most of the shots (including tons of macros) were on the other card and I transferred only a handful. I wanted to get another image out there and again this one grabbed my eye. When I first saw this I thought it would look great as a watercolor and went with it.

There's a bit of blue fringing on the upper right side that I cannot seem to get rid of in ACR and the filter picked up on that. I don't know why it looks so sloppy on the other side.

Lovely colours in this and some interesting patterns in the background that seem to add to the image, rather than draw too much attention.

This is beautiful. I read your PP steps, and I can't really see the glamour glow and watercolor filter. That's good, but I don't know how you did it. The shot looks very natural. No, actually it doesn't, it looks much better than natural. I'm envious.

As Mark-A said...

It is an extremely beautiful picture. I too am curious what it looks like without the water color. The only problem I have with the watercolor is the edges where the petals meet the background and the stem. It doesn't look as smooth as the edges of the petals within the flower. I assume it is simply caused by the watercolor filter.

coming back...

Seeing the thumbnail just makes me want to come back and say again, great job, beautiful picture.

Yes I too would have liked to seen it without the watercolour filter, whilst it makes the inner parts of the petals look soft and dreamy it has made the edges look hard and almost like they have been drawn in with a pen. This detracts from the image in the same way really heavy halos would.

Having said all that I could see this hanging on a wall on canvas as it is very pleasing from an artistic POV.

Lovely flower. Lovely colours. I think I would like to see it also without the watercolour filter.
