 This is an outake of my PJ challenge images. The handler was just playing with the snake after the session, and I was lucky to get a light coloured chair in the background.

I am quite phobic about snakes, frankly they terrify the hell out of me, so they probably won't be a regular subject in my portfolio.

ETA: Processing included cropping, patch, dodge/burn, levels, curves mask, resize, USM.
I tried a few different crops (see below).



No flash was used in this shot, it was taken in natural sunlight, under a UV perspex type roof (not sure of the specs on the roof, but it acted as a very nice filter).

Brilliant catch of the snake's tongue protruding. They seem to flap about at an alarming speed.

Excellent definition of that snake - good eye and tongue detail.

I do sort of agree with aplomb76 that the handler didn't
need to be in the shot as this little guy can easily be the star of
his own show.

I've handled snakes, and the ones I've played with are really cuddly,
warm and friendly creatures. But I'd sure check with someone who
knows before playing with a strange one.

...Oh I wish that was true, but it's not. This image has been cropped and photoshopped, and I didn't mean to imply that it hadn't been. I was in a bit of a hurry when I posted it. I have now added processing details.

I had to come back to this. I tried so often to capture the tongue of snakes. Not often was I successful. So congrats to you for not only getting the tongue but also having it that sharp. Very well done.

This is actually pretty cool, could be interpreted many ways. I'm torn between a kiss between lovers(yeah thats weird) or lets decide who is having who for lunch. :D I'd liked to see a bit more detail in the eye. It sort of blends in rather then standing out. Otherwise very nice. I am curious how you are syncing with the 5D at 1/320th though. Thats as much of an interest to me as the photo :D

Nice shot of the snake. If there was anyway to get more focus on his eyes, the snake would have come more alive. Snake's eyes add so much more to their beauty.

I'm pretty sure by looking at the snakes coloring that the handler isn't in any danger, so there is no suspense for me seeing them so close. So, I think the handler's face is pointless for this shot. If you had more of the handler's face, especially his eyes, he might be more relevant. It just kind of looks like they're about to kiss. (unless that was what you were going for :P )

Hmm... I guess its all about the eyes for me.
