As it seems to have caused confusion during the challenge - an Owls upper body markings are not to help it hunt or hide from it's prey while hunting (it's undermarkings do that), it is actually camouflage for the bird itself - hey even Owls need to rest sometimes . . sit back with a coffee and a good book :- )

Sorry but only weakly meets the challenge IMO. The topic was safety.. and although you got around to talking about that, it doesnt directly convey the notion of safety.

Back to comment and bump: Safety is a tough subject for a challenge and after a second look; I can appreciate your take on the subject. Hopefully, the DNMC Police don't hit you too hard, as the connection doesn't hit you over the head. I love the post processing on this image. It has a desaturateded look to it from the natural colors that works well. Personal preference would be to have the tree in sharp focus also. I grossly underscored this image when I was voting and I am bumping you to a 6.

Great photo but I'm not sold on the 'Safety' concept: totally. The Owls true 'Safety' feature is their night sight giving them stealth. 7

Beautiful shot, but I'm not sure an owl's camouflage gives him safety from bring hunted as much as it gives him the element of surprise during his hunt. I'm not marking down for it, I'm just saying.
