Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who took the time to comment on this image.

Many asked (in varying ways) "How does this met the challenge?"

The dictionary definition of 'Immovable' says (in part)

...incapable of being moved from one's purpose, opinion, etc.; steadfast; unyielding

OR

...not moving; motionless

In this case this particular butterfly was absolutely refusing to move from one of my child's hands to another - it was both 'unyeilding & not moving' - SMILE!

I hope this helps you understand my creative process in entering this image.

Thanks again for leaving a comment - they are so wonderful to receive - let's me know what the voters are thinking and that's fantastic!

Happy days to you,

Lisa

i know i've already commented on this but felt the need to comment again seeing i've just seen it in the photo domino game .. its so excellent and you got such a buggar of a score for it .. :)
its the sort'v image that improves each time you see it .. its very very brilliant lisa .. have you made it into a print and is it hanging in your house ??..
if you havent then you should .. :) .. SMILE ..
the 'smile' is just for you .. lol .. :)

hey lisa . i've called in for a visit & have been looking at some of your last challenge entries .. felt i needed to comment on at least one .. this is it .. and wot an amazing photograph it is .. the look of concentration on your son's face, the way you've cropped it, the butterfly perched on his finger and your brilliant processing .. most definitely a WOW to me .. :)
ps.. i find it very very annoying when voters make erroneous assumptions and then mark you down .. often with a tiny bit more knowledge a vote of 5 could end up being a 7, 8, 9 or 10 .. oh well .. at least their vote wont kill us .. lol .. !!..:)

I had voted an 8 on this, I think the final score was WAY too low. Just goes to show you that people definitely see different things. BTW your photos are amazing. Keep up the good work! :)

Love this. Marvelous shot. Composition, focus spot on for what you're showing us; love the blown bit at the top. And a gorgeous flutterby!

This photo is better than the place and vote it got.

This did nit deserve the low scores..... Think outside the box occasionally.

I am so pleased that some of us understood this one......

I'm not sure how this is an immovable object, but I know there is a message to it that you are conveying, which I am not getting.

Another one of the non-literal 'immovable' ones! I like this a lot, especially the depth of field.

I don't get the sense of Immovable here. A butterfly is clearly moveable. The depth of field works to highlight the butterfly, which may have been the intention, but does not highlight the topic at all.

Immoveable?

Beautiful, but a bit off topic?

This is a lovely photo. Doesn't fit the challenge particularly well, though.

I like the picture. The butterfly is nice and sharp, with excellent colors. The soft focus on the boy, helps the butterfly pop.

Nice concentration on the boy. Nice color butterfly!

not sure I get the immovable part, hope?, still I really like this shot and how he's concentrating on what he's doing

I think you are stretching the category a bit.

But how is this immoveable?

Very nice image, I like the colors and the depth, I really don't get the immoveable thing, but this is one of the stronger images in this challenge, came back to view again, I really like how tack sharp the butterfly is compared to the rest, such fine tiny detail, and how it has green here and there like older movies, not sure if it was intentional or not, but a great image, so far my only 10.

Good image but seems a bit out of the boundaries of this challenge.

very nice, I think it would have done better in the shallow dof iv though.

Great pic...but I don't see how it ties in the challenge.

How does this meet the challenge?
  Photographer found comment helpful.
09/11/2008 06:40:14 AM
It certainly is hard to get a butterfly onto your hand, I'll give you that! Nice colour on it too and good DOF.

Not sure how this is immovable. It's a very nice shot though, just not sure it meets the challenge.

This may not say immovable to me but a cute picture - did this belong in the shallow DOF challenge?

Hmm. Don't see how this fits. Will think about it and adjust score accordingly if I think of the connection to the challenge. Cute photo. Shallow DOF is nice, but the noise is not.

Wonderful colors on the butterfly, and great depth of field to isolate the butterfly from the other elements.

Trying to revive a dead fly, is that what you wanted to convey? If yes, this is a brilliant shot... with innocence.. and true to life colors.
