 Man, I have a newfound respect for IreneM and all those other masters of the reflecty-still-lifey genre. My table was so. Dirty., and I couldn't wash it enough to get a clean shot. So I did what any self-respecting DPCer would do--cloned out tons and tons of dust! This, of course, left me with a kind of splotchy table area. So I used a light airbrush to smooth out the glass (as well as a weird yellow fringe on the blades).

Setup involved my homemade Spiderlite TD5 shone through tracing paper at the knives, which I shot from the same side as the light. The knives were resting on a glass table which I had positioned so they wouldn't reflect anything other than the ceiling (which was bumpy, which caused a small problem in its own right).

Nice composition but suffers from "tangent error". The eye is drawn to the left edge where the knife point meets it.
