Took in Temple Canyon Park. These yellow swallowtails had been dive-bombing, teasing, zooming past us all morning. Too fast for me to photograph... All of a sudden, we happened upon a couple of them "doing the dance". And behold, I was able to take the shot. Probably will be trounced for "not fitting the challenge", but oh, well. It means a lot to me that I was able to accomplish this at all. Yep. Bigfoot and the UFO's will appear about 2 minutes after midnight. (But thanks for a really FUN challenge - I have a magical day hike with my husband and sons to remember and NOTHING can compare to that -- plus I have the pictures to prove it.) We appreciate you!!!!

This photo had possibilities but there is not enough contrast in terms of value. I like the strong shadows their wings have created but the photo is too monochromatic to be really striking.

Serendipity is a difficult concept to visualize. For me it means being at the right place, at the right time, and being lucky enough to capture something unique. Some of these entries are set up shots trying to illustrate that concept, and some record a serendipitous moment experienced by the photographer themselves. This is a good example of the latter, however the butterflies seem to get somewhat lost in the background.

Good capture and think it´s surely serendipityly (still trying to learn to spell it) moment to get to of them in the frame.

Where's the serendipity aspect?

Maybe a little over-exposed.

great image! Would like the ground to either be completely in focus or out. DoF would pop these suckers off the page nicely. Saturate more to contrast the yellow wth the brown! Well done. (7)
