Post: Thank you all for the constructive criticism. Certainly makes me think.

These are actually water crystals, the kids love them and call them "squidgies" because they are soft and they love to squeeze them. Set them up on a textured purple plastic flip file and tried different angles.

Adjusted noise, levels, saturation and sharpness.

Had lots of fun!

I am surprised and disappointed that this did not do better. I gave it a 10, but this is the first challenge that I have voted in, so maybe I haven't learnt to be picky yet. All the same I only scored one other photo a 10 ( 2nd place getter.)

Points of light are a wee bit harsh but I'm not sure that could be helped; this is almost yin and yang-ish. Nice job.

Great idea, well captured. Something different in the Challenge and it works well.

What a great use of related geometric shapes, balls, curves, dark circles with bright centers, implied diagonal line between the two large balls, coming together in a simple and beautiful design. My prediction for blue ribbon.

This is beautiful and different! I love the...glow? (for lack of better words) that the marbles cast in the shadow as well. 9

This is interesting, and I like the focus of light in the shadows, but I find it difficult to know where to look - it's a bit busy.

Refractions would be a better word. This looks underexposed but it may be the tint of purple throwing me off.

Cool! I love the lights in the midst of the shadows. Very, very nice lighting effect.

this is something i can totally see myself doing. i think if you had a lower angle it might add something else to this photo

When I first looked at this image I didn't see the most fascinating part. I first saw the glass balls in a pattern on a purple BG. Upon the second viewing I noticed the fabulous combination of shadow and hot spots to the left of each ball. I think this photo could be a ten if you found a way to really make the shadow of the balls the focus of the shot - via a different pattern, perhaps?

Nice symmetry. Though I wonder if the image would be more dynamic with the line of small spheres on the diagonal rather than the juxtaposition of the large spheres.

Beautiful concept but the cropping on throws me off a bit but still liked it!

Great lighting! It seems slightly oversharpened or something... I see a fair amount of white speckles and/or noise. Great image if there was a tad less noise.

Very clever and must have taken ages to set up. Nice.

Wow, this is such a gorgeous and creative shot. The curves, the light, shadows... beautiful. A couple of issues I see that may hurt your score are noise and spots of dirt from your sensor. The noise can be eliminated with the use of noise reduction software and the sensor dirt can be spot edited in basic. This information comes too late now I guess, but I sincerely think that this would make a superb print for you when cleaned up.

Very interesting photo you have here. Can't wait to read your comments at the end! I really like the points of light and the shadows. There seems to be quite a bit of grain, but not sure of that was avoidable or not. I'm leaning towards not.
