I used a Sigma 18-50mm macro lens that I borrowed from a work colleague.

Picture is cropped from original and some fade correction used in Paint shop pro XI.

Okay results are in...
I tried using a little bit of purple and hoping it would catch the eye amongst the salad leaves.
I figured I would try something a bit different.
Bad idea :)

I voted on this and gave it a low score. To me, what caught the eye were the leaves and the purple chocolate seemed to be an add-on. I felt that I had to search the image for the purple in it. I think that in these challenges, the theme has to reach out of the image and grab you (of sorts, at least) else you don't stand much of a chance of a high score among some of the superb shots out here. (I'm new here too and am still learning :-))

Perhaps, if you had cropped the image to the region around the chocolate and made it the focus of attention, you might have had slightly better scores. But you're probably better off rethinking your idea and coming up with a stronger shot.

Hi. I'm responding to your thread asking for comments. I would've voted this a 4. To me, that means you met the challenge but not in a very interesting or well-executed way.

This seems like a random purple thing stuck into unrelated other things. Why is that there? How does it add to the composition? I can't see how it does, so there's no impact other than thinking "well, that's random." Note that this is before I even get to the technicals.

Technical perfection can add to a well-designed image, but it can't rescue a poor idea. But in this case, the technicals aren't great, either. The focus seems random and the red tomato up top draws me away from the supposed subject, the candy bar.

Looking through your other entries, you seem to be new at trying artsy shots and experimenting with different ideas. That's terrific! Continue to play with the camera, explore macros, telephotos, portraits, etc. And keep being creative.

But as you do that, always think "what story am I trying to convey." That's how you'll produce images that blow people away. Not every image has a story (and many high-scoring images here, including some of mine really have no emotional connection), but the very best ones do.

As you are asking. There are to many distracting things in this picture IMHO - The purple is not the color here, maybe green! The salad is not fresh and interesting, the focus is not on the purple thing you got there and to be honest there is nothing interesting about this picture IMHO again :o)

But you can look at it like this. You did not like my picture because it was to purple (your vote probably matches that disliking :o) and I donĀ“t like your picture because of the things stated above BUT we are all here to learn and this is something we both learn from.

My advise would be to have less distracting things in your image and focus on the main subject. Good luck!!

I personally like the idea but I'd have to say that its quite hard to execute. Yeah the focus is a little off but even if that was corrected it might be a tough sell. Moving the wrapper to a more prominent location in the scene would help I think as would removing the red items as suggested previously.

Different isn't a bad idea but don't be surprised if you get dinged for it. Also don't be surprised when people marvel at your ingenuity. :)

Didn't come up for me in voting, but I think it was a good idea that just didn't work for this challenge. Maybe next week we'll have a veggies challenge. By the way, is that a foil candy wrapper in there? I thought you knew to stay away from foil now!

The only thing purple about this is a piece of trash next to a broken stem, right? Or am I missing something?

Surely there was something else purple to shoot... I hate to be brutal with my honesty... but there it is and I can't figure out how to say it any differently.

Not a very appealing image. The focus is poor on the candy, the focus of the shot.

Love the depth of field. The pruple would stand out more without the bright red distraction.

The purple in your shot does not provide sufficient impact or interest.
