After reading much about serendipty in the forums and what Kavey said, I retract my earlier comment and now admit that this is a good example of a serendipity shot. Nice photo!

This was definitely a lucky, or serendipidous, shot. The subjects are a bit too far away and unfocused to make the statement as strong as it could be. If you could have managed to come in a lot closer and still get the balloon in the shot it would have made a much stronger image. It works as a well-done, funny snapshot for a scrapbook but the technical problems overwhelm the moment. It definitely meets the criteria of the challenge as for as subject matter.

While this is not a great photograph (ok, it's not that bad ...), i think it best fits the theme of this challenge. I am a bit concerned with so many people associating money or jewels with serendipity ... something much more mundane but still surprising and charming (as in this case) is much closer to its meaning, in my opinion.

I think this is great. Good for the challenge, in tht the balloon is peeking over the corner, and a very spectacular photo. All the elements work as they should. Very nice work--my favorite to ribbon.

Highly humorous, could just about be serendipity at a push. Dust to the right of balloon needs removing and ideally I would have liked the balloon a little higher, although I imagine you would have lost the effect of it peering around the building, which in this image is a nice touch.

This photo really engenders a sense of surprise - how a person could just be tripping through the park and turn a corner and see this, which feels like serendipity to me. I wish the contrast was a little crisper and maybe the framing of the balloon shifted to the right just ever so slightly. But this is definitely in my top 10 for this assignment.

Cute... at first I didn't like the building, but now it's as if the sun is peeping out from behind it. 7

Almost perfect! Composition, human reaction, surprise value..all nailed. Maybe just a little flat in terms of lighting but otherwise....please step up on the rostrum and collect your ribbon!

This picture made me smile. Thanks. I rated many pictures this week low because they didn't reflect the theme very well. This is a happy exception. 8

Everything really set itself up for you in this one. I can just see you standing with your camera ready, saying, "come on... come on... just a little further out....YEAH! *beep*" Good work.

This fits the theme of this chalange very nicely. The tree and the building in front are a bit dark. But overall well done.
