Taken at the DC GTG in the National Zoo. This is jutilda son Grayson holding a Praying Mantis that we happened upon. We had fun with it for a while and put it up a tree so that the crowd of youngsters who had gathered around wouldn't have the chance to mishandle the little critter.

Thanks to all who viewed, voted and commented on my entry in the free study challenge. All of your comments were very constructive and I appreciate you taking the time to comment. This was my first challenge entered. I was happy with the overall score as I had hoped to get at least a 5. I was pleasantly surprised that I received 59 votes over 5 and a little disappointed that I got 10 votes under 4. So it goes. Perhaps a different title such as ' DOF ' might have made a difference. Some people 'got it' and others didn't. I will learn as I go.

You know, I thought this would do a lot better...grasshopper indeed! It's not that undiscernible. Well you at least got your feet wet.

I think your idea was good here but I think it would have been a lot better with the bug in focus and the kid just a little fuzzy.

great expression and eyes. think i would have liked just a tad more focus on the grasshopper, so its more soft than oof. 6 on the first pass, but I may be back for a bump.

This is good - I'm not sure if the eyes are on the creature or the camera.

I would have liked to see the insect in more focus.

I really like the curiuos look in his eyes, but I would've prefered the pray mantis be in focus instead since its clower to the camera- but thats just me 6
