this is going on right now as i post this .. these lambs have just been born ... it's my brother's ewe which has just had twins ..
he had asked me to check on his ewes coz he thought they might give birth soon .. its winter here and cold as well .. not a good time to be born .. she's a first time mother .. the lambs were in the dirt and she hadnt cleaned them properly .. they are very weak and couldnt stand up .. i moved the lambs into a patch of sunlight and onto some grass, but there are clouds so it wont stay warm there for long ..
my brother is coming up shortly to check on them .. he lives down the road .. lets pray they're ok ..
i had my camera with me .. surprise surprise .. !! .. & i took a couple of shots .. while i'm waiting for michael to come up i did this quick process ..
something to distract me from thinking about them out there .. often its best to let them alone .. intervention isnt always the best thing when it comes to nature ..

hours later ..
the ewe had two more lambs ..
there's no way she can look after them all & they would die without intervention .. they are very weak and small being quadruplets.
we have adopted one of them for the time being and are bottle feeding her..
we hope she survives the night ..

the next morning .. our little girl is thriving .. standing up and walking/wobbling around .. i think she'll be ok .. two of her other siblings were at my brother's place for the night & i've heard are ok too .. let's hope the one we left with mum survived the night ...

this is the follow up story the day after ..

five days old ..

Love the story. I hope they all did well after such a cold start in the world. Your sheep photos are very artistic and fascinating.

What a great animal to have around, as for the photo, is this an overlay because the processing or look to the image is cool

Beautiful, Roz. You don't need much extra entertainment down your way, do you. Seems you keep your own excitement level pretty high. Great story, and wonderful outcome for these little critters.

Quads! Wow.

Oh, yes, fabulous photography, as well.

Wow. What a story. And your pictures are a wonderful way to share it - your processing really adds to the mood of the situation, as always. YOu really do seem to have a good sense of what to do when to pictures you create. I'd say "take", but you don't "take" pictures, you make them.

I'm such a dork - I could have sworn I commented on this. In my head only , apparently.

Wonderful, wonderful work - and what a moving story. I hope it all turns out well with the poor lambs. And I hope they are not going to be slaughtered once they've grown. Are they for mowing or for wool?

The overlay job on this is fantastic.

She looks like a good mother. Those baby sheep better grow some wool soon. Beautiful lighting effect to bring out the foreground and the sheep birth field. Very sweet scene.

BEAUTIFUL and yet, a little SAD as well. I do hope they survive the night, and hope you do not get to attached to them.

I have never heard to four at once but guess it has happened before. I love this image, apart from the story, as it is so so 'EMOTIVE', and nearly moves me to tears.....

Thanks for sharing the image, and the story behind the image.
I really love the processing, as it is certainly has your stamp of approval on it.

Thanks Roz as you are the BEST.....
