Zingadingading!

For those who are wondering, my good friend Jas is crouching in shin deep water..

For the technique behind these types of shots, see purpleflutterby13's tutorial named "Fire Tutorial".

What he's spinning is fire poi - basically a ball (attached to a chain) that you dip in some sort of fuel (paraffin, white gas, gasoline, etc... which all burn quite differently)

Flash goes off at the beginning of the exposure - that way you know exactly what position your model is going to be in for the shot.

In terms of having the face free of fire - that would be sheer luck ;) I MAY have zoomed in and out a little in this particular exposure in order to "chaotisize" the shot a little and when you do that quickly during a fire shot lots of crazy things can happen.

Great shot and nice finish, how did you get the flame effect to not cover his face and arm?
08/02/2008 06:42:43 AM
I would be curious on how you did this. Long exposure then a flash?

Nice photo. Congrats on the ribbon

Such a fantastic shot! Could you explain just a bit what he is doing? Is this the flame on the end of a chain thing? Sorry to be so ignorant!!

i KNEW this would ribbon, it is indeed quite a pleasure to share the front page with you. The flames and the model are one thing, but the reflections throw this photo into another realm, killer shot!

I love the reflection in this.

I like the shot. I'm wondering how, under the basic rules, how the face is exposed without spot editing/cloneing in over the flame. Was there really a gap in the flame at the performer's face?
07/23/2008 01:35:28 AM
wow... the fire and the reflections! 10
