Yes it's a bad picture. Lousy pose, on camera flash, no post processng even shot in Auto.... Definately NOT DPC Material.

However, it's THE Picture.

They're the reason for everything. I didn't start taking pictures at all until she was born, and I wouldn't have her without him!

My husband and daughter (she'll be 4 end of August), he is the absolute center of her life. In my life I've lost 6 unborn babies, with him 2, one on our wedding day another a year and a half later. Then two years after that we finally get this precious angel. I can't begin to tell you the emotions of having her. I have two boys who are almost grown... well they're both 6' tall so I guess they are grown, but another 15-20 years they might be grown ups. I always wanted a daughter though, my mother died 24 years ago (I was 19), and I've missed that closeness for over half my life. She was the answer to so many prayers.

Even being born however almost killed her, the cord was wrapped around her neck three times, we got very lucky that day, and had a great doctor who saved her and kept me alive too :). Fast forward 15 months to a beautiful toddler, gregarious, joyful laughing who all the suddon drops 8 pounds and almost stops breathing. Turns out she became diabetic. Hence a second time she tries to talk to G_d before me! After many days in ICU we take our angel back home, but she's irreparably changed.

Now she hates any one not her family. We have to poke holes in her fingers for blood an average of 8 times a day, and give her 4-6 injections on a daily basis as well. Makes you feel like you are terrorizing your own child, even though if you don't they die.

Fast forward another 2.5 years and you have a toddler who loves school (she's not happy about summer break). Still doesn't trust strangers, but she's much more accepting of new people. Finally beginning to talk, and who loves to take pictures. Either her camera or mine she doesn't care which.

Anywho. I decided yesterday to take this picture of them. Not because it's a good one, but because it's the reason for all I do. This is typical of what my bed looks like in the mornings, it's covered with blond bodies that I love. (well and small furry purries, but they take up the other half)

(Chesna and Bill for those inerested :) )

This is "Slice of Life" which to me means letting us all see a little piece of everyones life. The titles, stories and explanations that go with the photos are more important, IMO, than the perfectness of the photo!!

The Pic - 4 maybe 5 on the typical DPC voting scale

The Story - 10 Brings tears to my eyes and to see and hear the love imparted.

Fav!

By the way I think it is DNMC for the pit hairs! :-)

Thank you for sharing the sentiment of your photo. Sometimes it's not about winning ribbons or getting the right capture. Once in a while it's an opportunity to convey some heart-felt things that you just need to tell people about.

You told a sentimental story and I feel lucky to have read it.

That's quite the story, and what "slice of life" is all about. Thanks for sharing.

There is the magic.

Thank you for this picture and the story behind it.
Embrace all that is special in life, every day, but cherish the everyday moments.

hey ches .. seeing chesna and bill asleep .. totally unaware ... possibly dreaming .. and then reading your story .. the devastating things that have happened to you and the joy .. a real slice of a life, maybe not an easy one, but often the times of pain lead to such an appreciation of the gifts we all have .. it is a tribute to you and your love ..
i think its a totally brilliant photograph by the way .. for some reason, even before i read your story, it brought a lump to my throat & a punch in my heart ..

Your story is heartwarming, honest, candid and lovely. The sentiment in the photo is just so lovely.........a 3 yr old's devotion for her dad.
