We've been getting quite a few rain showers moving thru at night lately. I decided to take the round-about way home last night, hoping to catch the sunset over Lake Chilasquakee, the closer I got the more clouds covered the sun. I was bummed, but pulled into the parking lot anyway. I sat there for a few minutes got the camera out trying to decide what to shoot, when I start seeing flashes in the clouds. Low & behold I got to shoot lightning instead! I was pysched!! I got one shot of lighting kind of over the lake but then it started raining too hard, it was blowing in under the umbrella, so I hopped in the car bummed that I only got one shot. I drove down the road a little bit & the rain lightened up, so I found a place to pull over, got the tripod & camera out again, set it up, got the umbrella out again & snapped away.
This was the first attempt at lightning with the dslr, it's not great composition & the colors weren't really workin for me, but I wasn't sure what else to do to fix it up.
SO anyway, here is day one, shot last night, but edited today, does that count? ;)

You did a fine job - I've never been able to take a lightning shot...

I know how hard it is to get a shot this clear... you did a great job! I'm surprised there's no fire at the bottom of that strike!

Looks fine to me. I love the blues and lavenders in the sky.

This is a really good lightning shot. It can be quite difficult to get any lightning sometimes and you managed to get one with a great background.

I am so envious of you. Ken and I were so looking forward to getting some lightening shots while on vacation in Florida. Every other year we are down there we always see such good lightening storms. Of course, this year we were not so lucky. Just a lot of rain and a little bit of lightening. :o( Great capture, love all the fingers coming off the main bolt. I think the slight color in the clouds in the background adds to the picture nicely.

Far out, Brandi!! You should be proud. Do you know how quick lightening is? I don't either... lol - but pretty quick. Awesome catch!!

Very nicely done Brandi. Be careful though if you take too many of these you may get hooked on storm chasing :)

I find this so wonderful. What a great lightning! (And very jealous, we don't see much lightning here). Think the colors are wonderful. Perhaps the foreground is somewhat dark. Well, crop the tree on the left and somewhat of the bottom and bring a little more light in it. Please leave that wonderful tower the way it is.
