 The changed background.
1. isolate flower and place on its own layer.
2. create new blank layer under the flower and activate it ONLY
3. I keep the original handy to select colors from it.

Use a very large, soft brush. I like to use the Blending Mode "Hard Light" with varying degrees of opacity. (Use 'fade' after every stroke) Your colors will blend when one is placed on top of another.

I generally like to place darker colors at the bottom, but it depends on what imaginary background I'm creating.

You did a great job of getting it so it doesn't look pasted. I know that can be hard sometimes. The background really works well with the subject.

absolutely beautiful alice .. you have a wonderful gift for this work ..
love your colour choices and your painted backgrounds .. the original on the black background is very dramatic and after processing it has a gorgeous delicacy .. both are brilliant .. :)
