I struggled with this considerably and may continue to work on it. Still, after a severe crop and isolating the blossom, I created a new layer and made a new background for the rose. I enhanced the pink just a touch, but that wasn't enough so I tried a tiny bit of "dry brush" and bingo, that's what did it. At least for this go-round.

Any suggestions for more ways to show off this beauty will be gratefully accepted.

Alice, this is "drop dead" geogeous- I love that you included your steps. I wish I knew how to make a new background- if you have time , could you tell me ? Pat

wow alice .. you really isolate a flower so well from its background ... i've seen you do it before and found the result excellent .. love the dry brush look .. this almost looks like its been painted by a master !! .. you had a great original to work from and you've processed it beautifully .. :)
i went and put processing steps on two of my before & after's after seeing your comment in the thread .. i'd stopped putting the steps in as i was thinking no-one was that interested .. now you'll have to go and comment on my days 10 and 11 ..
just went to check which one's i'd added to and you've just commented on day 10 . WOW .. you're quick .. !!..:) .
oh .. you must have commented on 11 when it didnt have the processing steps .. phewwwwwww .. i must'v just scraped in before your decision .. !! ..lol ..:)
