For Father's Day, I asked my daughters to let me take a nice photo of them. I ended up with about 5 good options. My extended family generally preferred another one, but my wife and my mom both liked this one.

The basic idea was inspired by Scalvert's "Hairlarious". Ever since he took that, I've wanted a similar shot of my girls.

If I had voted this challenge I would have been your 7th 10. This is a fantastic shot. As far as the redhead breaking hearts, LOL both pair of those mischievous eyes, here in a few years are gonna be heart breakers. I hope you are preparing yourself for it. Coming a father of a 16 year old..

Critique Club Review:

Color Saturationa and Hue are very good. The skin tones are very well done. Brightness and contrast are good, although the whites of the dresses are right at burn-out in a couple of areas.

Focus and depth of fied are excellent. Everything that should be nice and sharp, is.

The liquid or wetness of the hair, is a bit odd, and distracts a little from the photo. Makes you wonder why two girls appear to be lying in a pool of water. It also flattens and discolors the hair a bit. A tiny bit wider shot so that the shoulders were not cut off, would be interesting, but then was there enough hair to carry it?

Overall a very good picture. As for the score, I think you have already hit on the issue. It has already been done with more girls and more hair, by scalvert. Had it not been done before, I think you would have made top ten. Voters are funny that way.

Hey Jeffrey, good job (as always)! You know I love the red hair (and can't forget the gorgeous brunettte too). I really like the diagonal you have going too. I really like the big grin vs the shy smile.
Much congrats on a top 20.
Now ... show us the other contenders (after vacation, of course)!

Jeff - Congrats on the great finish. You have two very pretty models to work with (they must have got it from your wife!) I love the tribute to scalvert's shot.

Gotta' love the hair here. Great job on this - hard for a shot like this to not put a smile on one's face - it did mine!
Only nit here is the area of the red hair just above her forehead - seems to soft in comparison to the rest of the shot. Red hair - curly/wavy red hair - my fav.

Well, there are those beautiful girls we have come to know and love! this is really nice. I like the lighting and focus, and the expressions are showing us quite a bit about their personalities.

So I am reading through the score thread and I think I need to be swayed by the discussion (even irrationally so). I am not quite sure if this was a setup shot so I must DNMC it and give it a 2. Odds are these girls did not even realize they were lying next to each other or that someone was standing over them taking their picture. So I would have to lean towards the fact that this is more of a caught candid rather than a planned portrait which obviously does not meet the challenge. In fact so much so that I am going to call this shot up for validation in hopes that they will change the rule about not disqualifying DNMC images. I am just totally amazed that someone would enter an image like this into a challenge of this type.

ETA - bumping up. ;)

Scalvert? Looks like his kids. Good setup, lighting is a bit harsh/artificial looking though
