I work for a Police Dept. So you would think I could get a good crime scene shot.....NOPE, I guess crime isn't the thing this week. So I hear people say, "over $4 a gallon for gas is a crime" which gave me this idea. Hopefully I won't get a ton of "DNMC IMO"

I think this is the best photo I have enter (doesn't say much)

CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE
by karmat

Excellent shot, and one of my highest scores while voting.

Compositionally, this is a strong, stable shot. The nozzle's hose and nozzle lead the eyes to the tank. It may have been a bit more dynamic or edgy if it were set on a diagonal, but I am a bit "odd" about stuff like that, so this was probably the safer composition.

Technically, I like the rich hues and colors. Also, the exposure and focus work well. The only distracting thing to me is the gas tank "flap/door." I know there was no way to avoid it really, but it almost obscures the bill and makes it less effective. Perhaps if you could have found an older vehicle that did not have one of those, it could have been avoided.

Overall, a very well done shot, and one that was a bit of a refreshment after looking at a lot of "dead bodies." As far as dnmc, the way I see it, this was a bit of a theme in the challenge, so it obvious did meet the challenge, even if not in the most expected way.

Well I will take my Personal best of a 6.2448 and 13th place. I wanted to take a fun shot, the limited DOF was cause by a few things, I wanted to take the photo in the dark at a gas station, so I used my Fixed 50mm Lens with F1.4, which greatly limited the depth. It was the only way to use the actual lighting of the station and still get a clean shot. Thank you everyone for your comments. I know some don't agree "gas prices are a crime".....Well it was an F-n joke, :-) I just wanted to take a picture of something that was fun and people could relate to. Thank you everyone again!

I like the way this was shot, especially with the depth of field used. It seems a bit busy in a way and at first glance takes a bit of studying to separate the fuel filler door form the gas nozzle & bill. I think if the car had been a different color it may have helped. Good shot regardless, just my 2 cents input.

Gas prices seem to be a common theme... must of been on a lot of people's minds for this challenge, but at least this one had some imagination.

Although there are many other takes on this same subject, I feel this is the best- the composition is better and I like the imagery- a more creative take on things.

I'm not getting the story here. I assume you're claiming that somehow high gas prices are a crime, which is a contention I would seriously disagree with. But even assuming you're right, you're showing money coming out of the hose. Wouldn't your claimed crime be that money would be going from your wallet into the hose?

Gas prices are not a "crime". Shame since this is a nice photo that you couldn't meet the challenge.

got that right *sigh*

Narrow DOF works well here. Focus on the bill is nice. Humor value is alwyas a plus. You may score lower for having a photo of a crime rather of the crime scene, but who knows how voters choose to vote.

I hear ya. It's worth noting that petrol in the UK is somewhere round the equivalent of $10 a gallon (about two thirds of which goes the taxman). Of course, by the time voting finishes in this challenge it'll be nearly $20.

I just started looking through the entries for this challenge, but I think I've already found my favorite. ;D I almost feel like the background should be a tad clearer, though. Otherwise, I love the shot and especially the concept. :) Great job!

Interesting concept and the image is mostly clean but just does not work for me for a crime scene. Since when is business a crime?
