Challenge: Wheels (Basic Editing I)

Location: Downtown St. John's harborfront

I thought I had submitted my final photo for the wheels challenge before I left the office today - it was a pretty neat shot of the wheels on the bottom of my chair.

Then, on my way home, I came upon this big pile of tires on the harborfront that is behind a huge chainlink fence. I figured I had to give it a try, so i poked my lense through the fense in a few different places to try some different angles, and this one seemed the best.

I like the way the two backhoes kind of frame the narrows leading out of the harbor, and the fog rolling off the hills is quite nice. And of course the tires are pretty cool. It all comes together to form a bleak image of the harbor, which is fitting since we have polluted it so badly...

A big change from my original submission, but upon the insistance of a fellow photographer I decided to go for it.

Just a quick crop and a contrast bump and it was ready to go.

Hey Darcy, is that where they are putting that new restaurant? What was it, The Keg or Red Lobster or something?

Very nicely composed picture. The colors are great and the focus is good, too. It really looks cold!

interesting shot... i like the depressing mood accentuated by the bad weather... but... i don't exactly understand the title (even if i got the "tyre-d" allusion)... and it's kind of broken into two parts... try to avoid doing this... there is a middle line which sort of breaks the shot... good try though

Great title. The parking lot and sea/bay run together....cool illusion. I like this very much, good luck in the challenge.

The major horizon is dead center here. It would be more effective to tilt the camera down a bit more - removing the sky just about the mast of the blue boat. Or tilt it up if the sky had more to offer. Just don't split in in exacly half. The colors are very effective against the dreary day's muted scene.

tires are not wheels - no points off for that. the foggy background is a bit weird, and the mid- to background object dsitract my attention from the subject of the tires.
