I was in process of trying to submit a far better shot for this challenge, but alas I missed it by less than a minute.

Kinda' disappointed in the placement here and frankly crops are a matter of personal choice, and in this case, the crop WAS intentional, as I wanted the focal point to be the worn and troubled look on the face of this cowboy supplemented by the horse's eye. There is a lot of detail in the skin & wrinkles around the horse's mouth and would have made the shot too busy.

RIP Sean - this was one challenge I had to enter, and in some small way, hope this always triggers the memory for me to never forget you.

Thanks for the comments folks.
I'm happy with it, especially out of a p&s camera.

Nice work Brad. I get what you're saying about the crop - matter of preference.

He looks quite troubled almost. (The man that is, not the horse)

Old man has such an interesting face, but it gets lost in the photo. Also, the shadows are distracting.

Nice contrasts. Crop on horse might be a little tight.

Good cowboys wear white hats, right? LOL! Wonderful portrait, though one thing I'd like better is if the whole horses head was in the frame. Still, I think this deserves an 8.

The hats too new, the shirt is too new, and yet I’m still convinced, just a bit more contrast and I believe you would be in the top 10%.

It seems odd to have the horse's head partially cut off.

A nice B/W conversion in covering the tonal range. Something about the composition doesn't feel right. I think it's the busy background and cutting off the horse's head. Good catchlights in the man's eyes.
