Challenge: Wheels (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Location: Ft. Niagara. NY

Aperture: f/9.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/200

This was one cold April 4 at Old Ft. Niagara in northwest NY State. While the temperature was a balmy 20F degrees, the wind chill had to be around zero or less. My camera was on a sturdy Manfrotto tripod, but I still held fast to keep it from blowing over. I shot about 30 photos of the cannon and fort before my hands started going numb. The battery in my 10D wasn't too happy either. It died halfway through the shoot.

Applied PS7 auto curves, hue/saturation, brightness/contrast, and tweeked the selection colors a bit to get the tones seen here.

I appreciate all the good, helpful comments on my photo. The building actually has a stair-like design on the left and right sides of the roof. The facade is such that even a little sharpening brings out the mottled/speckled highlights.

I live about 30 minutes from Youngstown. This historic building is just fascinating!

Thanks to all!

Great looking shot. Love the colour, but looks quite a bit oversharpened.

this is very well done, the blue-tinted duo-tone captures cold NY, the composition leads my eye through the frame and at each stop there's something of interest. One of my ribbon picks

Great composition! The blue tones give your picture a cold and selent feeling. Well done.

Looks cold and bleak, doesn't it. It's good the way it is, but wonder what would have happened if you had zeroed in on the ordinance to give it the importance some would require for this Challenge. Doesn't matter. Still a good image.

good photo. would like to see a slightly tigher crop. To much negative space in upper left.

Great picture ! To enhance the composition I would crop from the bottom to have a better rule of thirds compromise. Yours, Jan

I like this. The sharpening may have been overdone, but I think it adds an old tin-print feel to the picture.

This is a beautiful shot, every time I see it, I keep thinking it is better and better. It has a surrealistic feel. A few jaggies along the edge of the roof of the building. Trying to figure out what is on the horizon to the left, thinking trees.

It all looiks so forlorn now. I've been looking (metaphorically) at other angles for your shot, but I t hink you have chosen the best one.

This is interesting. Oddly, it might be a better photo without the cannon!

Now, this is what I call an artistic shot...
It does not have a phylosophic title, but it does not necessarily need one, because the shot itself had a tremendous descriptive value; it's like a painting that does not require any special title;
I like the war mood , very blueish, very cold... the white wheels of the cannon which have the courage to be so white and so bold to stay there in a very belligerant and uncompromising position...ready to fire...
Very nice job!

Well done image, like the composition and colour. IMO the wheels are too small in relation to the photo.... I'm quickly drawn to the building (palace/house) which is compositionally positioned well. Also good placement for the wheels in the foreground but for the challenge it looks like the wheels are a nice addition but just an afterthought in the overall composition. Good job though, good luck. 7

The road draws my eyes more to the building than the cannon. Maby if you were closer to the cannon that would help

Impressive colors and composition, gives it special atmosphere. Edges along the building seem a bit artifical, as if you oversharpened.
