As often happens, the original idea morphed. I was thinking my wife and kids could each hold up one piece, with their hands visible, to represent that everyone is seen by others through their own lens, or as their own piece of the puzzle of their identity.

But it got too late at night and everyone went to bed, so I held up my own puzzle piece. I have four pieces, making up all of my face from my nose up (this is the bottom right piece).

For once, I shot it the night before it was due, saw some necessary adjustments, and reshot the next night.

I liked how I included both eyes in this piece.

Thanks to the commenters who so liked it. I knew going in this was a somewhat risky entry, but I wanted to do something different. I'm quite pleased because it looks as good as I could make it; I didn't settle for known technical flaws. So if you like it, great! And if you don't, fair enough.

I like the fact that you used this challenge to do more than a straight portrait. The message I got from the shot was that this person (I knew who it was) is a bit of a puzzle -- or perhaps that you are showing us only one piece of this complex person. I think you did a good job of getting the point across, and I am amazed at how well you were able to match the puzzle piece to your face.

Very neat idea!! (sorry about the earlier confusion) The placement of the puzzle piece adds a nice touch to the photo.

The idea is interesting. But the project needs a little rethink perhaps. The symbolism is not speaking simply enough.

Think I recognise Jeffrey here - great and very well-executed concept. That combined with excellent lighting a great conversion means a high score from me. Well done!

Bold original composition - tho that jigsaw piece in the eye looks uncomfortable!

Alas, I fear your gimmick will backfire - the underlying portrait would have done well on it's own, IMO. Good luck though.

Cool idea, must have been tough to get aligned just right. Seems just a tad unsharp to me overall, hard to tell.
