Looking for subjects, as usual, on the same day as the challenge submission is due. My garage produced. These are fuel metering needles from a motorcycle's carburetors.
I inserted them into a piece of foam, and began shooting, looking for lighting variables and angles. I used a incandescent bulb in a spot lamp to light the subjects. The camera was set for spot metering, incandescent white balance. The background is a flexible plastic coated sheet of white paper. The light blue arcs in the paper are the reflections of the flourescent lamps in my garage. I liked the effect, so used various bends in the background paper until achieving the desired reflection.

Cropped and cleaned the image. Selected subjects, curve for contrast. Invert selection, noise removal. Darkened the "black"ground to minimize any distracting elements. Save for web, Stroke for border, applied effects. Invent catchy title, submit.

Neat looking, good lighting and very detailed. Creative title as well. Curious what the angled blue item in the background is.

This for me is one of the best photos in the challenge & I wasn't even sure what they were. I like the composure, colors textures and the way they work in harmony to guide your eye around in the photo. I also was taken by the frame and how the subjects seem to fade into the frame on bottom. The 3D effect of the frame is interesting although it makes me wonder if the frame should be flipped horizontally as the light source seems to be coming from the left of the subject. ~ 8
