Thank you for giving these pups food and a voice.

I think the photo is great as is without digging into the technicals from a journalism standpoint.

In digging into the technicals it looks a tad over exposed or contrasty on the whites and could have used a fill flash on the face (that would have gone over well, I'm sure, heh). I'm not sold on the square crop and would have liked to see more of the chain in a horizontal crop.

Again, thank you and I hope you follow up once that bag of food is gone.

I agree about not seeing the dogs eyes .
As dog lover the first thing I saw when viewing this was that big old chain .
As a photog the hot spot on the dogs shoulder and back was distracting .
Kudos to you brother for feeding the dog .

I gave this a 6. I thought you did a good job of capturing a raw moment. I didn't give it a higher score because I thought the contrast was a little too heavy in front and the eyes and mouth were too dark. I'd want to be able to at least see more of the snarl.

I'll concur with several others that not seeing the dogs face, especially the eyes, held this back. It was the first thing I noticed. This could have scored probably 6+ if a more emotional connection between the viewer and the dog was made (via seeing the eyes). JMO of course. :-)

I am really suprised this didn't rank higher. For me you have done a superb job in articulating a strong narrative.

That is so sad. The owners need to be reported.

Buy that dog a steak for crying out loud! You can see his ribs, poor thing. I would have liked to see his eyes more but a fine pic.

Can you give me an address so I could call the animal police? I think people responsible for this dog should be prosecuted.

Too contrasty for my taste, wish I could see the dogs eyes.

poor guy, but nice shot. DOF is just right, I wish I could see his eyes a little better, but still a great shot
