This was taken last week when I was hanging out with Jutilda in Austin. I have this amazing new polarizer filter for my camera because I had dropped my other one in the river :( So when I got a new one, it turned out to be so much more awesome.

It was really bright and typically scorching in the Texas midday light, but the polarizer turned the sky the prettiest, deepest blue. When I converted it to bw, the sky turned black like this -- but I actually like it. It looks kind of dramatic to me and shows off that beautiful old building.

I was so tempted to add a digital moon, but decided to keep it real :)

Sorry for the rather touristy, cliche kind of photo this week, but that larger than life building still takes my breath away when I see it. It's so hard for a photo to convey the massive size of it -- and how tiny you feel next to it.

Well, that polariser certainly does the trick. It really helps emphasise the whites of the building against the sky.

I'm also curious about what polarizer you're using, that creates a great effect. The black sky looks tremendous and this is definitely not in the league of tourist photos.

Very nice Sandy. This is an awesome photo and, yes, very dramatic with the darkened sky. What type of polarizer did you get... if you don't mind my asking?

BTW I too find this li'l ole building fun to snap pictures of. I will be heading home from work or at night and pass by there and take a few pictures.

Looks liek a fun building to shoot. I really like the dark sky and it adds a great contrast to the white dome. I agree that it might benifit to lighten the trees but still a cool shot.

The dark sky really makes the dome stand out nicely.

The slight off-center postioning of the building works well for me. The dark feel of the shot is nice, but it feels like it should be lighter, since there are people casually roaming about.

The sky is incredible, I love the little wisps of clouds. Magnificent building, I can see why you love it so.

Excellent choice for B&W. The conversion really works well with that new polarizer! I'd get one but the sun isn't quite that bold in Germany. :-) How did you do the conversion? I'm just wondering if there's a way to still keep that bold dark sky and the great contrast of the building against it while maybe bringing out just a bit more in the trees that line the road. As it stands, though, this would make a great postcard of this place - nice to see it, too!
