I shot this originally for the fence challenge but decided not to use it..I really like the way the cow looked painted on...This was a very basic processed photo...cropped slightly, converted to b/w with photoshop's b/w command, sharpened and saved for web.

Very nice cow!!! Like that the fence is nice and sharp yet the cow is sufficiently sharp that it remains a key element in the image.

lovely shot...with the emphasis on the barbed wire ...a mild innocent humane view on a tragic subject of cow slaughter.....

"Yes, Funny Guy! I get it! Don't moooooove while you take my portrait! Got any more up-to-date jokes or are you still an out-of-work comedian?" (Thanks for the latitude! I love trying to put believable words into photos of people and animals.) Good job on a great photo! :)

This is great:) I love cows. Well done on the dof and I love the hair on the barb.

Perfect DOF to focus the attention on the wire fence. I especially like the one little white hair caught in the upper barb of the wire. That would have made an outstanding macro shot by itself.

This is one of those shots where the subject is clearly the focus yet not in focus - I love it when it works as it does here.

Not much to say that hasn't been said. Great choice of focus and depth of field. Interesting shot. And the cow's face is well-framed between the wires.

I think this would certainly have been a good choice for the fences challenge (sorry to say this but I think it is better than your actual entry). That said, I'm glad you shared it here instead.

good choice to highlight the fence with focus and leave the cow blurred

Hah! Look at those ears. I like the blurry cow and the sharp fence.

Exceptional - and may I say I LOVE your choice of focus.

Think this would have been an awesome OOBIE for Mugshots - GRIN!

unique, focusing on the fence and using the shallow dof. It would have worked well for the fence challenge.

He definitely looks fenced in. The fact that you blurred the cow diminishes it quite a bit more on top of the fencing in.
