Nice. The composition is good, the focus and depth of field pleasing. I personally prefer a subject like this slightly out of focus at the edges. As a "set up" shot (as opposed to a "found" scene), I may have looked for a more complementary surface to put the shell on -- fabric with no pattern and little texture, for example, or a surface with slightly less variegation. Overall, nicely done. |

This is verrrrrry nice! I do agree also with Codys about the issue of opening your aperture all the way up to 1.8 and 2.2. It's tempting with those 1.8 lenses because you can get so much more light in -- BUT -- I have found that it is HARD to get an entire subject in focus when I open up my aperture up that wide, so I use it very sparingly and only when what I want in focus is clearly small enough that it fits the photo -- like a single flower in a bunch.
You are awesome, Sofia! Welcome to this community. You are going to fit RIGHT in!!! :)

Since use used the 50mm , then I would suggest you try to stop down the aperture to 11 at least to get mor DOF.
Also try a different angle (lower) to get a different perspective
Composition wise , you may find it interesting to put the shell in the lower left corner. Try it to see if you like it !! |

The back of the shell is out of focus. I would close the aperture a little to broaden the depth of field. Ideally, you would want the whole subject in focus, or if you want to do some artsy stuff, really get in tight and exaggerate the narrowness of the the DOF (like just having a person's eye in focus). When it is somewhere in the middle it tends to look lime a mistake.
Nice ISO selection. My rule of thumb is to always shoot at the lowest ISO you can so as to keep the noise down. |

I prefer simple shots like this one versus the other two you posted. I like the use of lighting and nice contrast of the shell on the darker wood, plus there are nice textures in both the shell and table. I do think the shell is too close to being centered and though I like the angle you choose for the shell I think the composition would benefit from moving it in the frame so it is either more towards the upper left frame or more towards lower right. I think the lower right would work well since the shadow would then run diagonal through the frame creating a nice flow. |
