What is the different between power lines and cloth line? Nothing
04/04/2008 10:02:48 AM
no need for a DQ here. wrongly disqualified.
04/04/2008 04:38:38 AM
This is an area of DPchallenge that kills me. The rule on this topic is so vague and leaves the interpretation up to the site council. if you look at Scalverts entry as an example, he cloned out fishing line, which is sort of the same thing here isnt it?
04/04/2008 04:18:03 AM
Huge thanks for posting the original, still a great picture, harsh DQ IMHO
04/04/2008 01:24:10 AM
I'm really sorry to hear we are about to lose a perfectly good member of long standing over a DQ. especially in this Advanced Editing situation.

I wonder if it would be helpful to DPC to have an appeals process for what might well be considered a borderline decision.
04/03/2008 10:22:55 PM
original

Is there anyway you could post the original before you leave??? I do agree with you as far as not seeing the original. I know EXACTLY how you feel man. I was DQ'd for something similar. I think you should fight it and ask for a recount.

This is why I wanted to change the rules, to make it completely clear for everyone that you can or can't clone out certain items. If it was background you cloned out I think it should stay, but we would need to see an original to try and help.

This is also why we should have other people auditing SC’s decisions on DQ’s

There was a piece of a the tripod boom that the balloon was suspended from on the top. There was a screw in the bottom plate that held the peep to the platform. I stuck the thing out of a 6th story window. It seems to me that what I cloned was no worse than a ton of other clone outs here, branches, telephone poles, tree lines etc. Whatever.

I've requested my account be closed and my portfolio deleted. Not because of this, this was just the final straw with issues I've got with some of the allowable activities on this site, mainly encouraged collaboration.

No sour grapes, time to leave.

Ditto what Alice said. DQ details should be very specific or they serve no purpose.
04/03/2008 11:03:05 AM
Again, with the greatest respect for the SC, this is another
example of why the use of the "one size fits all" Disqualification
Details information simply does not say adequately why the
image was DQed.

we cannot learn from perceived mistakes if we don't know what
the maker may have done incorrectly.

I can't really see any significant cloning marks and dm21384 didn't contact SC or request validation on the entry. Cloning is legal in advanced... as long as you don't clone out visually prominent parts of the original. I thought it was a strong entry, and it's a shame it had to be DQ'd. :-(
04/03/2008 09:42:37 AM
Shame about the DQ, I thought it was a great shot.

Any chance you can post the original and what you did that got you DQ'd so others don't do the same, thanks :)
04/03/2008 09:21:22 AM
they have better eyes than me, I can not see any cone marks. Anyways, I thought cloning was legal in Advanced??

Shame about the DQ, I thought this one was hilarous!

Hey, good for you! You noticed a quick clone job on the image and you were good enough to call me out on it! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I bow to your greatness... oh thats right, you've never entered a challenge and you don't have a portfolio. Pity as I bet you're both a great photographer and a world class Photoshop retoucher.
