thanks for the comments and favs everyone.. I didn't think about it but being new here I guess I should have realized no one knows I can actually choose how I want to expose a portrait lol.

This is my son and I have a zillion beautiful bright rosey cheek sharp pics of him (and some not so sharp and bright I suppose :) ) but wanted something more dark and intimate.. then there was this challenge and I thought it fit rather well. I actually did most of the work in camera just desaturated in lightroom a few other tweaks and made sure that there was no vignetting allowed here so left that off, it turned out it was better without the vignette I'm prone to anyhow.

This is perfect. Super low-key with the delicate contrast blend beautifully to make for a nice brooding image.

haha...3 favs. told you not to worry about scores. In fact, winning a ribbon is sort of embarrassing...means your too oridnary. ;)

that is a very good photo in my opinion, as I said below. Clearly not one that scores high on DPC it seems. But clearly one were you should not value too much the score. The mood is great and not all images need to fill the full histogram and be tack sharp

if her face were just a bit lighter this would be an amazing shot.

I really like what you are trying to do with this shot - but I think it's just a tad too dark (at least on my screen). Great expression, great crop.

I think a little more light on her face..especially her right eye would have helped.

She's beautiful. I wish this were lighter so I could see her better.

Nicely done, a bit more light possibly.

DNMC. It's also extremely dark and grey. Too bad, it could have been a really great portrait.

Quite dark...and a bit flat. Cute model.

I go back & forth on this one. I'd like to see some spot of pure white in this image, but given the title I respect your intent to do something different in a B&W. I do wish her face was as sharp as her hair though, 6.
