Many thanks to the model Karl Kristensen. He is a very talented guy and although he doesn't work as a pianist he plays very well. While I was shooting he played his own music for me - I wish you could hear it.

THANKS A LOT FOR VOTES AND COMMENTS - IT'S MUCH APPRECIATED!

Wonderfully composed shot. I would have been tempted to title it something like "Pianist in Major and Minor". The added reflection reminds me of the key scales.

Oh this is so awesome! He looks ever the part of the distinguished professional pianist. Brilliant the way his reflection is so mirror-like in the piano.

Congratulations on a ribbon for this great photo.

rather an odd expression here but the rest of the image is near perfect, great use of diagonal and reflection

Very nice, indeed! The framing, and utilizing the reflection from the mirror on the lid, are want makes this picture.

One of my 3-10's in this challenge. Love the reflection in the piano top and the smug "damn, I'm good" look on his face.

This is a pic that made me sit closer to my screen and study it. I like the composition, inclusidng the reflections. Having the piano open and seeing the snares out of focus is nice too. You did a nice job on b/w conversion as well. It is too bad though that the guy looks so bored.

The reflection seems odd. The photo would have stood alone without it.

Interesting portrait. The lighting on the left (his right) is well done although it does make it look like his jacket has two tones. His reflection in the top right is important for separating this from being just a picture of a guy at a piano. I don't quite understand how his reflection is being made, but that is probably a lack of knowledge about pianos on my part....7 nonetheless

Probably not the best execution of all the photos in the challenge, but of all the entries in the challenge, this feels most like a portrait and you've clearly caught a player in his environment. I especially like the composition. The top 2/3 of the frame form a square bisected by the strong diagonal. Catching the reflection is perfect. The bottom 1/3 gives us the context. Perfect. Well done! Best of show!

Terrific shot. The black and white is so appropriate for piano. The geometry and lighting of the shot are lovely and the reflection tops it all off, so to speak.:) And not least of all, the pianist is quite intriguing. 10

Clever. Wish this had been Advanced editing so you could do more evening out of the hot spots. Still a very nice shot. The angles & lines paired with the portrait are quite good.

nice stuff, i would love to see what you could do under adv. editing rules with this. Specifically, the difference in tones/contrast b/w the real/reflection slightly troubles me. Not much you could do about that tho! Still, great shot, 8
