OK well this really wasnt the photo I had intended to take this challenge, but when I was in my garden this female blackbird landed on the fence and seemed to holler 'Photograph Me'.

I guess for some people there may be too much bird and not enough fence but I do love the shot. One of the things that I really loved was the sharpness of her claws on the fence (which I lost a bit of in resizing etc)

Special thanks go to cfarrell who once again provide ideas about how I could make this better including a wonderful tutorial on how to reduce noise which turned it from (imo) an OK shot into a really good one

I find myself on occasion looking at my shots and thinking 'what wont the voters like about this' and in this instance I guess perhaps the green of some of the leaves in the forefront is a little harsh and maybe I could have played around with dof more (if I had time before the subject flew away) to get better bokeh in the background

Of course I would like this shot to score reasonably though I am fairly sanguine to the fact that it probably wont. What I love is that nearly a year on from being a full member of DPC I do think a lot more about images whilst still taking the shots I like

What an excellent shot, Jon! Love everything about it - the clarity, the colors, the bokeh. Wonderful work.

I like the title as it conveys the sense of freedom that the bird has. That's a beautiful capture of the bird, btw. I see that he is carefully watching you with that big eye. Personally I think there is a good balance between bird, fence, and leaves. It's a great and natural scene that you have captured here.

Such a great capture! Wonderful contrasting colors and textures, spot on composition and dof. Nothing left to do here, imo. I guess you must be quite stealth with retrieving your camera during instances like this. Either that, or maybe you own a stuffed bird and are pulling a fast one on us ;)

Well done Jon. As a garden person and part time bird watcher I am envious when I see such a wonderful shot of the flitty little guys. I like the green as it adds contrast to the bird. My guess is that folks didn't see the fence. Maybe you have have called it straddling the fence.

Good, but could use a little more punch in the colros and contrast. I'm not fond of square crops, but that's a personal preference. You can remind me about that the next time I have to use a square crop.

Well composed. Would have like to see the catch light in the birsd eye.

beautiful photo! not sure if there's enough fence for the challenge. I'm torn as to how to vote...

A lovely photo, and the bird really adds to the picture.

This shot, if I had to describe it, is about a bird. The fence wouldn't enter my mind at all if it weren't the challenge.
