Good friends of ours with their sweet little 6-month old baby. I'm trying to learn how to pose people for portrait shoots and it's not easy! I think I had Mom use the wrong arm to hold the baby here - her left arm would have cradled & framed the babe and hidden some of the shiny hiney which would have improved this shot IMO! I used a vignette to cut the glare! : )

Shot in RAW - RAW conversions. Elements - levels, selective color, vignette, dodge/burn, blur, hue/sat, minor cloning, USM, neat image, crop, save for web.

Yes, lose the shiny hiney, but the shiny diamond is a perfect pose. And like a diamond, it's the imperfection that gives it value. The playful interaction gives the photo a familiarity that your concept may lack. Of course, it's worth a shot, next time, and let them pick. Very attractive as is.

I think you've been a bit harsh on yourself. I think this is excellent......one of the best baby portraits i've seen in a long time, and child photography is so hard. I really like the arc of eye contact, and I find the colouring and lighting subtle but very effective. And of course, a gorgeous baby and cute expression really helps too!

Fantastic portrait. Beautiful positioning of each member of the family to really convey intimacy and wonderful expressions captured on all three faces.

The light's more 'professional' in this one. But I prefer the other.
