Wonder what people are going to make of this lol. I'm not going for the cute vote hehe. I'm looking forward to lots of "he's...um.....different" type comments. I say "him" but I've no idea what gender he/she is.

For anyone that's interested, Dyson is a plecostomus, a member of the catfish family. His function in an aquarium is mainly to suck all of the algae (hence the name lol) and keep the tank clean.

Mrs Soulman and I have another pet, a gorgeous bunny called Karma, but we're not letting the troll voters near him.

I love these guys.
I had one for about 7-8 years and was over 12" long and had the prettiest light blue eyes.
I adopted a name for them form my Dad - he always called 'em Preposterous. I have too.
Dyson is cool. Just a touch in the levels and drop neutral levels a bit and it really looks great!

From the Critique Club:

Nice job and good subject.

Composition. The composition is good as the lines move diagonally across the frame. Eyes are on the thirds line.

Pretty good job of avoiding the glare from the tank. The shallow depth of field means that much of the photo is not in focus, but that does put the attention on the face. This scored a 5.5. A few things in post processing might have helped the score: Perhaps desaturate the intense green in the upper left hand corner since it detracts a bit. Some saturation of the purples could help. And some selective sharpening of the foreground - in particular the eyes. Probably sharpening is the most critical.

Great job.

Nice to see something a little "out of the box" in a pet challenge. Nice DOF, looks like you have a nice tank set-up as well. For a catfish, this is pretty cool.

He's very well behaved - posed very well for you! May not be much fun to cuddle with, but he's a looker!

Cool - I love the photos of "different" pets (i.e. not cats or dogs, even though I entered one myself). What kind of fish is he?
