I love this shot. Everything about it. The composition, the lighting - excellent. I really like your choice of b/w and think it accentuates the photo. Great work!!!!

Excellent salty dog style capture with great textures and tones. Exposure is right on and DOF really isolates your subject, but I'm wondering if the background is too blurred as there is no setting to help tell a story (if there is one to be told). Still, I love this shot and will score it high.

Very sharp. Interesting character. Maybe the glasses are causing distracting shadows? . Good lighting.
I should have cropped more the left side, or lesser the top. But it's just me :)

Excellent. Shouldn't have cut off the top of his head however.

Nice use of monochrome to bring out the many textures of hair, skin, and clothing. - 7

I like the shot, the lighting, the detail. My only humble suggestion would be: since we can't really see any expression in the face, a wider crop might show background detail that would convey more personality.

A great capture of the subject's personality - something every portrait should strive to do. I like the tones and the lighting.

Very good capture. I normally look for either eye contact to convey a sense of intimacy to the viewer or a pose/look that demonstrates some emotion with which the viewer can identify. Here you lose a little for me just because you've lost 2 of the more expressive areas of the face: the mouth is shrouded by the beard and the eyes are covered by the darkened glasses. It's a great pose and you exposed it very well. I like the skin tone and even given that it appears to be taken with direct sunlight you managed to keep from having anything really blown out. I could also take the lack of any major expression better if the eyes were simply a little more open so that the viewer could at least perceive the gaze of the subject. All-in-all, I could see anyone choosing to frame this and put it up on the wall or keep it in the album. Good shot and a great example of how to shoot "outside the box" as it just slightly missed on the major areas I look for and yet I scored it well above average.
I do find the horizon at the bottom right corner slightly distracting but rather than cropping the photo closer, I'd suggest just Cloning/Healing Brush it out.

Maybe a hair more contrast..? I do love the focus, light and pose. Nice looking shot. Good luck in the challenge.

because you chose a landscape orientation, I'd almost like a little more space on the right side to give the captain more to look into. Its a great shot, however. Wonderful tones! Only thing missing is that bit of hair at the top. ;)

I would suggest to crop of the horizon line on the bottom right corner and give me more of the top....Otherwise, interesting perspective and tones.

Great crystal clear, natural looking study. Good focus, gentle background. Maybe cropping out the bottom 1/4 inch and to the zip line on the right side would work too?

Like the black and white here. I also like the gaze going out of the frame. This is my favorite so far.
