Thanks for all the kind words, I think I really learned a lot on this one. John was such a good sport. I will continue to practice portrait shots, as they are quite fun.

excellent perspective, good choice of black and white, fine composition and lighting

What a doll! Great shot and use of monochrome - composition works well and I love the two cowlicks. - 9

this is a good shot, but my eyes are draw to the two "horns" of hair sticking up. Maybe a shot like this with those hairs in place, or more of his hair spiked up. I like the softness of this.

Hi John. Great pose. Would like to see it with a little more deeper contrast. Tinge to light. BOL

interesting pose/subject/environment. more light on his face, and getting those all important catch lights in his eyes would improve this.
On an aside.. the border needs work :)

not sure what to make of this ...the focus is soft but it looks good on this shot...i do like the b/w...i think the shadows on the wall from the plant are distracting

I realize thisshot is posed, but you were able to really capture something candid here. A great subject. I think you're going to do really well with this one. Good luck!

seems a bit soft

A bit more light on the face and hair might have been better, other than that it's a great photo. A 9 from me.

P.S. The irregular border doesn't help.

Handsome young man. The light is okay maybe a little more on his face. The focus is soft and we need to see him sharp and crisp. Good luck.

Lighting is good but I think it could have done with a little more of a contrast boost as the black and white is a fairly even tone. Your border is also... strange.

The contrast looks very flat in this - no real whites or blacks making for a quite subdued feel. The pose and lighting look good on the subject - the plant could maybe have been moved ?

i long for more conrast and sharpness

Great use of black and white, nice soft skin tones, maybe would have preferred a less busy background but an attractive photo.
