We had a major snowstorm overnight and somehow I made it to work. At lunch I went out to the local woods and took a short walk, just when the sun was starting to peek through the clouds. I was able to get a few shots and this is the my favorite of the bunch.

I tend to use these SOL challenges to experiment and try different things, and this processing is a first for me.

convert from raw
create duplicate layer
add motion blur @ 90deg
add mask to dup to let part of background show through
burn shadows a bit
dodge/burn to enhance the trail
color dodge in trees
levels
hue/sat
resize/sharpen
save for web

I had no idea you used just motion blur for this. It seems I remember you saying something about it but I thought that you had used the fractalius filter. Great job! I would love to take a walk there!

This is stunning, Ken. Very haunting and beautiful. Thanks for posting your processing steps - and for braving the snow and cold to get this shot!

Fantastic effect!! The snow reminds me of waves in water, it looks so fluid.

The movement you've created is incredible. I feel like I am running or snowmobiling through the woods while looking at this photo.

I'm glad you played with the processing - your end result is not only very interesting, it's very pretty! I love the soft shadows on the snow - those horizontal curves setting off the verticals of the trees. Very nice.

Never ceases to amaze me how good snow looks in a photo. Although, before I read your processing sequence, I thought you may have had a big night on the turps. Like this a lot. Going in my favs.

Very nice processing, would love to see the original! I agree with you, it's fun to experiment with the side challenges (not that I am very adventurous, but..)

wow ken .. you've created an amazing image here .. so much movement .. love the horizontal shadows and the trees with their incredible vertical shapes .. those little wispy branches in the foreground and leading to the larger trees add a beautiful delicate element .. :)
