Sorry for the second hummingbird in a week's time. I didn't have anything else, and thought she deserved a look. A female Anna's hummingbird. Probably the same one in the Birds II challenge.

The setup and lighting is a slight refinement to what I described here.

Post processing:
* convert from raw
* crop
* neat image
* clone the extra catchlights in the eye
* blur the background slightly
* multiply layer to darken background
* screen layer to lighten bird
* hue/sat to increase saturation on bird
* hue/sat to increase overall saturation
* USM to increase local contrast
* resize, sharpen, save for web

Gorgeous! The details on the feathers make her look so soft and beautiful.

What can be said about this shot? In my opinion this is as high a quality as the “Planet Earth “ series was striving for..

It's amazing that you can capture a humming bird without the wings being a complete blur.

Very nice! I can see some noise on the wing, but heck, I feel awkward even mentioning it, because of what it takes to stop one of these in motion this way.

Talk about "Stopped Motion"; I don't see ANY blur in the birds wings! Very impressive. Way to have the background be OOF but not blownout. -BB

This has got to be the best hummingbird capture I've seen yet focus and detail are perfect 10

Very nice...must have had a high shutter speed to capture the wings so clear...at least 1/1000 I would guess. Interested in your set up, as I have been working on capturing these little guys this past summer. Having a tough time getting enough light to keep the shutter speed up.

Wow... that must have been hard to capture.

Very nice angle on this shot with a very good depth of focus. The backround is a little bland but it helps to keep the attention on the hummingbird. The focus is actually on the back third of the bird but I realize how difficult it is to get these shots unless you prefocus and take your chances! The stop action on the wings is excellent. The red in the throat is a little oversaturated but again I understand the difficulty here especially using a flash. Overall, a very good picture. 8
