 Seems appropriate to have day 30 be a woodpecker to balance day 1 ... OK, and day 25 ;-)

But I couldn't NOT take this guy's picture! I went to my favorite park to go take some wide angle shots of the scenery, heard a tapping above me and there he was. He even stayed put while I sidled into the woods to get the sky behind him more in the shot. Good bird!

ETA: he's a she. Should have checked a bird book before I wrote my description ;-) Thanks for the info.

This is a very good shot of this "girl"! I would have tried to get at least one shot before moving around to get this one I think, but that may have scared her away. We have some of these that visit this neighborhood almost every day, and some little red heads nesting every year in the trees in our yard. They are difficult to photograph because they move around so much, and tend to stay high in the trees.

He's actually a she! The male has more red on top and red on the side of his head

We have a pair of Pilated that come to our feeders every day. As well as Downey and Hairy woodpeckers. They all like my home made suit blend. (Suit, peanutbutter and bird seed)

We never get tired of seeing the Pilated. Nice shot!

sheeeeeeeeesh . fancy seeing a bird here !!!!
i reckon his head must've been moving at a million miles an hour .. he's nearly a blur !! ..
ahhhhh .. just read your comment ... it must'v been the excitement .. i get like that when i spot something i really want to photograph and its something thats not going to stick around .. in fact the very act of putting your camera to your face can scare them away .. 10 shots or even more, and i'm lucky to get that eye in focus ..
he looks so cute up there mary .. :)

Cool bird ,it looks huge , a tighter crop on the right and bit off the bottom would pop the bird more IMO:)
