Caught this guy flying from the trees in Hyde Park, near Tacoma's Point Defiance. He was HUGE, and certainly majestic. You could actually hear the flapping of his giant wings from 100yds away. Shot at 400mm. Wish it was sharper.
Proudly, the winner of

Thanks posthumous! :O)

Those great blue herons are certainly a treat when you get close enough to see how huge they are. Most shots don't capture their size very well, this one does. We are lucky to have some many in Washington. Terrific capture.
This remains a stunning shot, beautifully processed and with a great title and 80th place doesn't do it credit. Glad to see Posthumous coming through with the red ribbon - it's well deserved.
This is a very cool capture. It suffers from lack of processing - such as lightening and intensification of colors with a levels adjustment layer, and a bit of sharpening.
a 10 straight across the board, totally fabulous capture, well done.
I hace come back to add to his picture. The blues are intense, the legs are primeval, the shape of his wings whilst it is beating has created such a huge concave there that your eyes are drawn to them and certainly would be more drawn to them than just being straight out in flight. This was a brilliant shot, I totally love it.
