This is a photo from my favorite beach, Lumahai, with 15 to 20 foot waves crashing on the rocks. We had a NW Swell and it was incredible.

This time of year the rocks are extremely dangerous here at Lumahai. A number of people have lost their lives not respecting the power of the 15 to 30 foot waves that break over these rocks.

I wouldn't go near those rocks that is for sure. But I bet for some people that is a way of life.

Nice shot showing the power you talk about and keeping so much detail on the water.

oh! love the stop action of those waves. I got to experience "big water" as you describe when I wsa in S Diego last month...what a thrill! and the surfers dig it! :) glad to see no-one crazy enought to be on the boards in this spot!

I love this shot. It look like the wave crashes hard on the rocks in the background and you could almost sit on the ledges in the foreground and let the water wash over you. But I suspect that the wave is still quite strong when it hits those rock.

When I looked at the thumbnail I thought these were clouds. This is a great shot!
