Challenge: Silence IV (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G5
Location: Home, Oceanside, CA
Date: Mar 2, 2004
Aperture: f/3.2
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/800
Galleries: Abstract, Still Life

I wanted to get the feather just above the surface, but didn't have time to work with it enough to eliminate the motion blur.

Adjusted levels, sharpened, resized and sharpened. Oh, yeah, cropped somewhere in there.

This was my #2 pick! Congrats on the top 10 finish! Simplicity at its best!

Congrats! Pays to remember that sometimes, the simplest idea (not necessarily simplest to execute, however) is very powerful. Way to go; good finish!

ARRRRGGGGGHHH, this is so damn fraustrating...
OK, lets start with the good and positive.. FANTASTIC PHOTO!! I love the simplicity of it, it worked well on my screen as I could only see the top 2 thirds of the pic, I didnt know what to expect as I scrolled down, and the green feather just.... well, worked! I am about mid way through voting and this will easily reach top ten, maybe top five??
OK, now onto the negative.. DONT RELY ON A TITLE TO MAKE A PICTURE FIT THE CHALLENGE! The pics I usually rate highest would not need a title, they would scream SILENCE out to me (is that something of a contradiction in terms?), granted they would be technically good as well, but I am from the old school of DPChallenge, where I think subject should be adhered to, not there as an afterthought. I oh so want to give this a ten, I really do, I love minimilistic work.. Oh f**k it, have a nine this time but take my comments on board.... Nince one!!! 9 marksimms

this is a nice example of how simplicity can be used effectively. Only complaint would be border disrupts the calm white background.

Serenity. Empty spaces. Softness. And the sound of a feather falling . . . silence. 9

My Favorite by far... Meets the challenge and a very well taken photo, Did you take any of the feather falling, might have added some more to the silence

The stark white background bothers my eyes on this.

Nice high key lighting. It's difficult to get the white as clean as that and not lose the edges of your subject.

I think this is great. Although the picture really says "soft" or "fluffy" to me more than "silence" I scored it highly.

Creative, innovative, and beatifully shot. This is very original and the use of blank space is brilliant. One of my top picks.

I love the colour of this feather. I really love this image for this challenge. The only thing to note is that some people who vote may not scroll down to the bottom to see the whole image (I hope this doesn't happen... but I'm sure it does). I really love the composition though and wouldn't change a thing. It really stands out.

Not only silence but calmness, grace, and solitude are what I'm getting from this picture. I love how the borders gradually changes color from the top to the bottom. Beautifully executed!

I love negative space, it usually strikes me strongly. Here it's a bit overwhelming, but for the challenge of 'silence' it fits very well. Love the shadow on the feather as well. 6.

Minimalistic, he...
But i like this. It conveys the sensation of silence through the absence of visuals and the softness of the plume.

I got yor point but the photo itself is littel bit to cheap. It doesn´t get my atention for a long time. But u get extra point for the idea of silence.
