One of the best things about where I live is the HUGE number of local parks and historical places. This is a little of both, being a new park built around the remains of the old Lorton Prison. This is a view from what I think was an employee parking area looking at administrative buildings, with a guard tower next to the entrance to the complex over on the right. Some of the buildings are being converted into an arts center. It's a wonderful place to explore, even if most of the buildings are safely behind a chainlink fence at the moment. Behind me in this shot are nature trails, Frisbee golf and a regular golf course. The white lines are new and follow the Cross County Trail, a continuous 40+ mile trail through Fairfax County.
Never thought I'd find a prison inviting, but this one appears to be. Lovely colors and texture on the bricks. The sky contrasts nicely against it as well. Nice to see you get a reprieve in the weather, for now at least, right?
Inviting? Not sure about that...I wish to stay as far away from those as I possibly can!! lol. Cool shot though and I love the colors!! The sky is too cool!!
OMG, back in the day when I lived in Woodbridge, I was looking for something to photograph. magnetic9999 suggested the Lorton Prison (closed at this point, but not turned into anything as neat as an art center). I drove there, and low and behold, it was unlocked. My lucky day!!! I went inside and got some good photos in spite of the harsh light. (You can see them here Lorton from the inside).
I turned to leave, and woe is me, someone had locked the gate. I was locked inside an old defunct prison. My cell phone was in my Jeep, outside the locked gate. Ever try to break out of a prison, even without the guards? I do not recommend it to anyone.
I have lost all of the originals due to a computer crash, but these few still reside in my pbase account.
Nothing like a prison park to clear one's head. The colors are great. I am happy the guards in the tower weren't shooting back at you shooting the photo.
Actually this is tack sharp and I love the composition of your image. Nice job!! Thanks for sharing the story behind it all. It's refreshing to hear something positive used along with the word Prison! I'd explore around here for sure.

I love the blue sky! That's so funny that you chose a prison, I have one on my list too! Unfortunately there are still prisoners in the one I'm going to get. I don't know how I'd feel about going to an art center that's in an old prison.
Nice sharp image against that pretty blue sky.. Prisons give me the creeps...even nice looking ones like this one, so glad t to hear how they recycle buildings in your town!
